OUR PROJECTS

In August 2000 the Council, in conjunction with the California Alliance for Prevention, began an AmeriCorps/Vista program with 9 members. The 2003-04 program year had 27 AmeriCorps members and 2 Vista’s serving in social service agencies, resource centers and schools in two counties. In 2006, we had 34 members throughout two counties.

In 2007 the Council was awarded an AmeriCorps grant directly from the Corporation for National and Community Service and is administered through CaliforniaVolunteers This grant funded the NorthState Rural Assets Project  to serve in afterschool and school based programs in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Trinity Counties. Members use the 40 Developmental Assets to reduce high risk behavior in the service they provide. Fulltime members serve families and children in their homes as Parent Partners. Parent Partners provide mentoring, and linkages to other needed community services. Members receive a monthly stipend as well as an education award at the end of their term of service. Individuals interested in serving their community may contact the Council at americorps@shastacapc.org. Recruitment begins in late Spring for the fall program year.

Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children

The Council is the fiscal agent for the Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children (APHC), a collaborative organization whose members include parents, schools, service clubs, health care providers, social service agencies, small businesses, community based organizations and individuals. Recent APHC projects include the establishment of the Anderson Teen Center and “Teens at Heart” youth group. One of the goals in establishing the teen center is to help develop youth as assets within the community. APHC has held two multicultural fairs, established a task force to survey school nutrition and fitness policies, provided leadership training for over 50 youth and involved area youth in numerous community service projects.

Parent Partners!

Shasta CAPCC operates two Parent Partner projects.

The Children First Parent Partner Program (CFPPP) is a program operated by the Council and funded by First 5 Shasta. This program serves pregnant women and families with children under the age of 3, who reside in Shasta County. Parent Partners provide parenting support, mentoring, and act as a bridge to accessing other community resources families might need.

The Community Parent Partner Program serves families referred from Shasta County Children and Family Services. This program is designed to lower the rate of repeated child abuse in Shasta County. Parent Partners work with low-risk abuse case families and connect them with community-based organizations such as counseling, drug rehabilitation and other family-strength companies.

For more information call (530) 242-2020 or email acarlton@shastacapc.org.
